The property is located directly on a secluded section of the Mihiripenna beach, where guests can sit on the beach itself or on the property to watch the peaceful and stunning Sri Lankan sunsets. The view encompasses Thalpe’s picturesque rock outcrop extending into the ocean and iconic stilt fishermen on their daily routine

The villa features 3 large double bedroom suites. The first suite has an additional double bedroom attached, a lavish 50-ft pool, and a breath-taking oceanfront view overlooking the virtually private beach.

Not only do you have the beach and pool to help you achieve blissful relaxation, but the grounds are set on nearly an acre of tropical gardens, with luscious, vegetation, flowers and an ancient coconut tree-lined walkway leading you from your villa to the wonderful azure sea.

The property is very family friendly and was designed with the utmost luxury in mind and built by the renowned Sri Lankan architect Shayan Kumaradas. The villa is furnished with a number of period pieces and art work from around the world.

The Villa

Sleeps 6 adults and 2 children
1 separate apartment on the first floor with bedroom containing 6-foot four poster bed, extra-large bathroom, outside shower room and another small bedroom with 2 single beds (this bedroom does not have direct bathroom access). Also a large terrace, a yoga pavilion, private drawing room and small open plan kitchen.
2 large double bedroom suites with private patios overlooking the pool. Both suites come with a 6ft four-poster bed – one can be converted into two singles, seating area, desk and large dressing area with fitted wardrobes

The indoor/outdoor shower has been custom built to allow visitors to take full advantage of the beautiful starry nights found in Sri Lanka. It has been tastefully designed with white terrazzo where you can shower under the light of the moon in the privacy of your luxurious room.

Cloisters has relaxation at the heart of its architecture. If you want to feel truly Zen then you can enjoy the breath-taking moonlight ocean views from the upstairs apartment terrace or the beach terrace and drift off into a peaceful bliss listening to the sounds of the sea.

Activities

There are a variety of things for guests to do in the surrounding areas.

Of course the private pool and adjacent beach are enough to fill your days however, there are numerous water sports such as sailing, fishing, cruises, paddle boarding, surfing and snorkelling, to name a few, in Unawatuna and Mirissa, both of which are just a short drive away. Also nearby there are organised cycle rides through the paddy fields and visits to nearby tea plantations. A little further south, near Matara, guests can book whale and dolphin watching.

The UNESCO heritage site of the historic 17^th Century Galle Fort is a 15-minute drive away where visitors are encouraged to take in the local ambience, by stopping for ice-cream, wandering through the picturesque narrow streets, shopping in the local boutique stores for jewellery, art and artefacts; before sitting on the ramparts and watching the world-renowned Galle sunset.

Guests can also take the wonderful trip to Koggola Lake with its many islands inhabited by several species of exotic birds.

Staff

Our staff are highly trained and have all been with Cloisters for a long time. They all follow our core objective of providing an outstanding and luxurious service to each of our guests.

There is a dedicated butler, Joseph, who will look after you splendidly and who is available to help you with anything you may require throughout your stay.

There is also a resident security guard (Nehru) on site 24 hours a day together with a full-time maid (Kanthi) who works six days a week.

Location

Cloisters is situated in the Southern Province of Thalpe. From Colombo airport, it is about 2 hours by car and airport transfers can be arranged on request.

There is a huge variety of local restaurants nearby with food ranging from the day’s freshly caught fish and local Sri Lankan curries to Italian and Mediterranean. There is an even wider range of cuisines available in Galle Fort just 10mins drive away or further along the coast road in Ahangama.

Surrounding area

Numerous water sports are on offer in Unawatuna and Mirissa including sailing, fishing, coastal cruises, river trips, sea kayaking, and snorkelling and boating. Surfing is also enormously popular. Koggola Lake with its many islands inhabited by several species of birds, is another wonderful experience. A little further south, near Matara, you can go whale and dolphin watching in season. There are also cycle rides through the paddy fields and visits to nearby tea plantations.

I highly recommend visiting the historic 17th Century Galle Fort – a UNESCO heritage site. This is one of the largest “living” forts in the world which in recent years has enjoyed an artistic renaissance. It is a delightful experience to stroll through the narrow streets, stop for an ice cream, wander into an iconic boutique store where you will find clothes, amazing jewellery, art and artefacts, not seen elsewhere. One of the “experience” of Galle Fort is to sit on the ramparts and watch a Galle sunset!

Enquiries

Rates can be for the whole villa or by room. Each of the pool suites is US$180 per night. The rate for the entire villa is US$750 per night. There is a minimum booking period for single rooms of 2 nights and for the whole villa of 3 nights.

During peak season (December – April) the rates are US$200 for a pool suite and US$1,000 for the entire villa. However, rates are negotiable for extended stays.

To secure a booking, a 50% deposit is payable in advance with the balance transferred no less than one month before occupancy (please also refer to our detailed terms and conditions)
